Former Bayfield resident Bayfield Thomas W. Taylor died Sunday May 4, 2014, at The Denver Hospice.
Tom was born to Oscar and Ruby Taylor Aug. 9, 1930 in Andalusia, Alabama. With a fake birth certificate, he enlisted in the Air Force at the age of 17, serving as a military police officer.
He married Hallie Charles Suche on Sept. 3, 1949 in San Antonio, Texas.
He married his surviving wife, Darlene C. Anton, on Aug. 16, 1992 in Colleyville, Texas.
Tom worked for Retail Credit Bureau and American Service Bureau in San Antonio.
He and his family moved to Bayfield in 1976. While in Bayfield he started an insurance company and served as school board president for the Bayfield School District.
He moved back to Texas in 1982, then he and his wife Darlene bought an RV park in LaVeta, Colo. in 2006.
Tom enjoyed golf, reading, old western movies and tinkering in his shop. He studied the Bible and loved to teach Sunday school and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife Hallie Taylor, son Thomas W. Taylor Jr. and granddaughter Kristina Langley.
He is survived by his wife Darlene Taylor; sons James Taylor of Colleyville, Texas and Mark Taylor of Thornton; grandsons Jerrod, Josh, Zach, Coleman and Cameron Taylor; great-granddaughter Aubrey Langley; three brothers and a sister. His death is also mourned by Darlene's sons Chris, Scott, and Cliff Spears and their families.
