Three nominees named for vacant judgeship in La Plata County

Governor has until Aug. 11 to name new judge

A judicial nominating commission has named three finalists to fill the seat of retiring La Plata County Judge Martha Minot.

The nominees are Dondi Osborne, a federal prosecutor in Durango; Graham Smith, a Durango lawyer in private practice; and Reid Stewart, a prosecutor with the 6th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Durango.

The finalists were whittled down from nine candidates who applied for the vacancy. In addition to the three nominees, those who applied included Arthur Jacobs, Benjamin Lammons, Sarah Law, Keith Mandelski, Sean Murray and Douglas Reynolds, all of Durango.

Gov. John Hickenlooper has 15 days from Thursday to appoint one of the nominees as La Plata County judge.

Comments about any of the nominees can be sent by email to the governor at gov_judicialappointments@state.co.us.
