I am 19 years old. I would like to address the issue of fluoridating city water. I have many objections, but I will limit myself to three main points.
My first point is the clearly damaging health effects of fluoride. There are now tens of millions of people in China and India who suffer from crippling bone diseases due to fluoridated drinking water. Fluoride also causes neurological damage to children, and adults. Fluoride was originally marketed as rat poison but was taken off the market when it started killing humans and their pets. A quick Google search will show damning evidence that fluoride will do far more harm than good.
Here is a short list of the negative health effects of fluoride: calcification of the pineal gland, thyroid disease, skeletal fibrosis, kidney disease and hypersensitivity, to name a few.
My second point is that fluoride is considered to be a medication. So does it not make sense that one should be able to choose how they medicate? If the water is fluoridated, the choice of every person who drinks city water will be stripped away.
This alone should be enough to keep the water clean. If the argument were whether or not to add Ritalin to city water, there would be no debate.
My last point is that I believe the health department does not have the best interest of the community in mind since they stand to benefit financially from fluoridating the water.
In conclusion, I do not believe it would be in the best interest of public health and safety to fluoridate city water.
