Tie a string around your finger

Don’t forget that September is National Senior Center Month, and Sunday, Sept. 13 is Grandparents Day. If you are lucky enough to have a senior loved one in your life – or in your children’s lives – don’t forget to remember them, especially on the day dedicated to them. Seniors are a valuable, dedicated group, who give innumerable hours volunteering for many of Durango’s charitable nonprofits. Some who are not physically able to be out in the mainstream might feel invisible or forgotten.

It doesn’t take a huge amount of effort to say a kind word to that senior citizen you encounter in the grocery store or when out in public. Smiles and kind words are free! Boomers and others are welcome to visit, volunteer or advocate on behalf of the older generation at your local senior center or care center. After all, without grandparents, none of us would even be here.
