Tigers kick an extra point

Demons allow first goal and suffer first loss of the season

An opponent scored on the Durango High School girls soccer team for the first time when the Demons played at Grand Junction on Saturday.

The Tigers didn’t stop scoring, either.

Grand Junction (1-2, 1-0 Southwestern League) beat DHS (2-1-1, 2-1-1 SWL) 7-2.

“They were able to do their thing against us because we weren’t really prepared to play this game,” DHS head coach Dalon Parker said Sunday. “We came out kind of flat, but, while we were coming out, they took advantage of us. The game was almost out of hand before we knew it.”

Berkeley Davis and Madeline Robertson scored for the Demons while Stephanie Wilson picked up an assist.

DHS continues its run of road games to start the season at Montezuma-Cortez on Saturday.

“After talking to the girls on the bus strip, they understood why they were in the situation they were in, and they understood how to get themselves out of it,” Parker said. “It was definitely a learning experience for us. I’d rather have it sooner than later.”
