Tim Cooper Memorial Scholarship session opens

Funding supports higher education for area high school seniors

The Four Corners chapter of Safari Club International announced during a recent fundraising event that applications for the Tim Cooper Memorial Scholarship are available.

The scholarship – created to honor the memory of longtime Durango resident Timothy Scott Cooper – supplies funding to graduating high school students at Four Corners schools who are enrolled at colleges, universities or trade schools.

Applicants must display a record of community service and display their commitment the Four Corners SCI mission statement:

To promote good fellowship among all who love the outdoors and hunting. To promote conservation of renewable wildlife resources, with recognition that hunting can be used as a management tool.To educate youths, sportsmen and the public about conservation of wildlife populations and forests.To share knowledge and hunting experiences with members.To operate the association as a nonprofit according to its charitable purposes and provide enjoyment for members.According to the obituary published in The Durango Herald, Cooper was a Durango resident since 1990 who died in an auto crash June 6, 2016. He and his wife, Paula, started Cooper’s Construction Inc. in 1995, and he maintained a reputation in the area as a businessman, entrepreneur and dedicated Jehovah’s Witness who enjoyed motocross, hunting, fishing, camping, hiking and photography.
