Time for holiday markets and bazaars

The First United Methodist Church will offer sloppy joes and other food during its annual Holiday Bazaar.

The holiday season is just about here, and with it comes the annual holiday arts and crafts fairs and markets, where you can find everything from cool fine art pieces to the perfect handmade gifts from local craftspeople.

Here are some shows that are on the calendar so far:

Saturday

Colorado Country Holiday HeArts and Crafts Fair

10 a.m. 147 Lone Pine Gulch Rd., Durango.

Featuring 19 local vendors. Jewelry, hats, scarves, handbags, vintage jars, crafts of all kinds, food and more. Free

Holiday Bazaar

8 a.m.-3 p.m. First United Methodist Church, 2917 Aspen Drive. Information: 247-4213.

Vendors, handmade items, crafts, plants, baked goods, Trash to Treasures. Homemade food all day. Pie-by-the-slice, sloppy joe luncheon begins at 11 a.m. Free

19th Annual Artisans’ Holiday Gift Show

9 a.m.-4 p.m. Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave. Information: 247-0235.

This event features gifts and crafts for sale from local artists in metal, glass, pottery, fabric, gourds, chocolate and more. Refreshments and door prizes all day. Free

Thanksgiving Market

9 a.m.-1 p.m. La Plata Fairgrounds, outside in the breezeway.

Featuring locally grown fresh veggies, meats, cheeses and more for your Thanksgiving meal. Plus, get a jump on your holiday shopping with unique and useful items from quality local artisans.

Nov. 25

Winter Solstice Artisans’ Market at Durango Arts Center

Opens at 10 a.m. Nov. 25, closes at 5 p.m. Dec. 23. Open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday, closed Sundays. 802 East Second Ave.

A signature community event, the Durango Arts Center’s Winter Solstice Artisan Market features over 40 regional artists. Offering original and unique fine art and crafts including ceramics, jewelry, metal, textiles, glass, wood, notecards, ornaments, calendars, photography, paintings and drawings, to name just a few. Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair at La Plata County Fairgrounds

St. Mark’s Annual Community Christmas Bazaar

8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Dec. 3, 910 East Third Ave.

Begin the morning with coffee, cinnamon rolls and homemade quiche. Additional lunch items and homemade pies will also be on sale. Stroll through dozens of booths filled with all manner of artisan products and specialty handmade unique gifts such as: ​quilts, paintings, greeting cards, jewelry, novelties, knitted hats, gloves and scarves, handmade clothing, purses & bags, books, Christmas decorations and more.

Old Fashioned Christmas Bazaar

9 a.m.- 3 p.m. Dec. 3, Animas Museum. 3065 West Second Ave.

Vendors will be selling handmade wares.

Senior Center Arts & Crafts Bazaar

9 a.m. -2 p.m. Dec. 3. Durango/La Plata Senior Center, 2424 Main Ave.

The Bizarre Bazaar

5 p.m., Studio &, 1027 Main Ave.

Every December, Studio & hosts a cross between a holiday bazaar and a Turkish bazaar. Space is filled with 25 local artists who are selling their creations. The Bizarre Bazaar is a great place to buy unique holiday gifts directly from the people who made them.

Dec. 10

Holiday Farmers Market

9 a.m.-2 p.m., La Plata County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall, 2500 Main Ave.

A festive affair, featuring regular and new local artisans, bringing an assortment of quality handmade holiday gift items. Plus, pick up the last of the season’s fresh vegetables, meats, cheeses and more from favorite local farmers. Enjoy live music from local youths and professionals while indulging in delicious hot food and drinks.

Nonprofit La Plata County Independent Youth Performing Arts’ annual Frosty’s Holiday Craft Fair & Farmers Market

9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bayfield High School Main Gym. Information: 903-4294.

This annual fundraiser event features free admission, vendors, door prizes, a silent auction, Frosty’s art display, a tweenager (ages 10-14) team scavenger hunt at 10:30 a.m., Frosty’s birthday celebration at 1 p.m. with special guests Elsa and Anna and Frosty’s Fun Zone in the BHS auxillary gym for kids ages 4-9 from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. The craft fair is a fundraiser for LPCIYPA winterguard program. Country Roads 4-H Club will be offering tasty items in the commons area to help raise money for its 4-H programs.
