Our two silent representatives, Rep. Scott Tipton and Sen. Cory Gardner, should be ashamed of themselves for violating their oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution.
President Trump recently crossed into extraordinarily dangerous territory by “demanding” that the Justice Department investigate itself about a laughable “conspiracy” to infiltrate the Trump campaign. He has also made ongoing attacks against the Justice Department itself. None of this should be a surprise. The man has trampled on the U.S. Constitution since taking office.
He has ignored the Emoluments Clause since the day he took office. More recently, he rescinded sanctions on Chinese electronics company ZTE – found guilty of breaking U.S. laws three times – three days after the Chinese government agreed to provide $500 million in loans to a project in which Trump has a business interest.
If all this is not a surprise, it cannot be considered normal. The parallels between Trump and Nixon’s actions against his “enemies list” are close. But among the most frightening and disappointing aspects of the Trump disaster is the silence of the Republican party. Our representatives Tipton and Gardner, along with spineless so-called “leaders” such as Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan, have utterly disregarded their oath to protect and defend the Constitution in the face of Trump’s raging war against the institutions and investigations that will, quite likely, reveal his involvement in money laundering and obstruction of justice.
Gardner and Tipton, for their silence and lack of country-over-party courage, must be turned out of office.
