In January, I was laid off due to restructuring, and for the past six months I’ve been without health insurance. I’m 40 and in good health, but the vulnerability of living without health insurance weighs on me EVERY day.
An appointment for an established patient at my local primary care clinic is over $100. At $12 per hour and student loan payments of $700 per month along with the usual monthly bills, that’s a hit to my bank account that will take a month or so to recover from. Let alone the absurd price of the prescription that may be a result of the costly appointment.
You might ask, “Why not purchase health insurance?” That’s a simple answer. Health insurance would cost me nearly my entire annual salary, and premiums are projected to rise 20 percent for rural Coloradans. For this, we can thank Congressman Scott Tipton.
Tipton’s votes on health care are making tough choices for Coloradans. Congressional District 3’s representative not only voted to take health care away from 271,500 Coloradans, including 45,000 in our own district, but he also voted to increase health insurance premiums by 20 percent. Premium costs will be released next week. When you must choose between paying your bills or purchasing health insurance, you can thank Scott Tipton.
Primary ballots have been sent and are due by June 26. Vote against Scott Tipton. Show him that you care about how he’s voted to represent YOU.
