I hope all voters noted the story (Herald, Oct. 31) advising that Scott Tipton, as part of the Congressional Coal Caucus, joined with other critics of reasonable environmental policies in urging Speaker Paul Ryan to permanently block the Stream Protection Rule, a measure intended to reduce the impact of surface coal mining on our public water sources and wildlife.
The Stream Protection Rule is based on three decades of technological and scientific advances in mining operations and environmental reclamation, and updates antiquated mining laws that allowed coal mining to create devastating environmental impacts.
This rule protects our precious water resources by providing a regulatory framework to avoid water pollution and the long-term costs associated with water treatment but, once again, Scott Tipton sided with the mining industry and their lobbyists instead of our families.
Vote for Gail Schwartz to protect our precious Colorado water.
