Tipton is busy doing nothing important

Congressman Scott Tipton wrote a column in this paper, “

He introduced some bills to add funds for veterans’ healthcare. The VA system is a socialized health care system using government-employed doctors.

Tipton is okay with veterans’ socialized medicine but has done nothing for providing improved medical services for everyone else. Socialism for veterans and capitalism for the rest of us.

He wants to bring back the USS Pueblo, which was captured by the North Koreans 50 years ago. Why we would want to spend money on retrieving and restoring this forgotten Cold War-era relic is beyond me.

He said he was trying to get more Department of Defense spending going to Colorado. Classic pork barrel politics.

He wants more federal funding for rural broadband, which is laudable. But Tipton doesn’t back net neutrality to ensure the internet isn’t controlled by just a few big companies.

Tipton wants to re-authorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which is also good. But he doesn’t support the Colorado Outdoor Recreation and Economy Act because of objections from the oil and gas lobby, his prime donors.

He is finally jumping on the opioid crisis bandwagon with some vague promises to curb drugs at the border even though the crisis is largely caused by Purdue Pharma (oxycodone) and fentanyl (China).

So what’s he been busy doing? Nothing very important.
