To catch the OkCupid or Tinder rush, log on from 9 to 10 p.m.

The combination of new year’s resolutions, cold weather and the proximity to Feb. 14 help make this the biggest time of the year for online dating.

With all the extra fish in the online sea, here’s a tip that can help improve your chances of matching: Evenings are the highest traffic times for online dating.

According to a report Nielsen released Thursday, Tinder’s peak usage happens at 9 p.m. and OkCupid’s at 10 p.m. “We were surprised to find that dating app usage doesn’t peak as late at night as we thought it would,” the Nielsen report said. “In fact, it peaks during primetime.”

This is Nielsen, after all, which has been measuring TV viewership since 1950. So if you’re watching primetime TV, messaging matches could make commercial breaks fly by.

In addition to the evening peak, OkCupid has a smaller bump in traffic around 9 a.m.

“When we look at unique audience,” Nielsen reported, “we see that a larger percentage of all OKC users sign in both in the morning and night.” Tinder’s only peak time is in the evening.

So the next time you’re messaging someone, you might think about timing your messages with peak times. It’s more likely your messaging partner is already using Tinder or OkCupid at that time.

And it can take lots of messaging to move things from online to real life. In a separate survey, from the dating app Hinge, daters who got into relationships after matching on that app exchanged about 25 messages before handing over their digits.
