I was among the many who were profoundly shocked at hearing Trump’s statement that there were “nice people” among the white supremacists who demonstrated in Charlottesville.
I was also taken back by the term “Alt-Left” applied to the counter protestors.
Nice people? I’ve been looking at dozens of photos of white supremacist demonstrators wearing helmets and vests, bearing military-style assault rifles, with the vest pockets stuffed with spare magazines. My, the president knows “nice people”! By virtue of being white supremacists, these demonstrators are the last thing from nice.
As for “Alt-Left,” I have to ask, what is leftist about being an advocate of ethnic diversity? I always thought that to honor such diversity is to honor what is genuinely American.
Me? I love ethnic diversity, revel in it. Nothing to the left about me. Nothing to the right, either. Just me – I am what I am. And I have to point out that the Republican National Committee today unequivocally denounced white supremacism, and even said to its advocates, “We don’t want your vote.”
Well, I guess the GOP has migrated to the left, together with a huge majority of Americans now expressing disgust at white supremacism. You think so?
