Toby Keith, Carrie Underwood touched by Oklahoma

The tragedy in Moore, Okla., is particularly touching for country star Toby Keith.

“This storm has devastated the community that I grew up in. I rode my bike through those neighborhoods. I have family and friends in Moore. My heart and prayers go to those that have lost so much,” he said in a statement. “But Moore is strong and we will persevere. God be with you all.”

For Carrie Underwood, who was born in Muskogee, Okla., the news was also hitting hard. She tweeted “Growing up in tornado alley, you always know what could happen...it doesn’t change how devastating it is when something does happen. I’m thinking about and praying for my beautiful home state and the people in it tonight.”

The news was mentioned on “Dancing With the Stars” during its live finale Monday night. And Brooke Burke-Charvet tweeted ruing the show: “Omgosh. Just learned the news in our commercial brake. Prayers for #Oklahoma were all praying 4 u here at #DWTS.”

Paula Abdul : “#Oklahoma My heart and prayers go out to each of you of your families. It is such a sudden shocking devastation. xoP”

Miranda Lambert : “Pray. That’s all we an do. Pray for peace for Oklahoma.”

Maria Shriver felt like it was unfolding too quickly. On Facebook, she wrote: “Prayers for Oklahoma. Before we get to all the ‘We will rebuild’ language, I hope we can pause in the heartbreak and grief that so many are feeling and allow them the time and space to grieve. These families are in shock. Let’s pause, pray and grieve with them.”
