Tomsick scores an RMAC accolade

Fort Lewis senior guard tabbed conference’s top offensive performer
Fort Lewis College senior guard Nick Tomsick averaged 26.7 points per game in three games last week in Hawaii, earning him Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Hawaii seemed to suit Nick Tomsick just fine.

The Fort Lewis College senior guard poured on the points in paradise, leading to his selection as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Tomsick was the offensive catalyst all week for the No. 18 Skyhawks (3-2), averaging 26.7 points in three games at the Naniloa Volcanoes Resort Thanksgiving Tournament in Hilo, Hawaii.

He opened the week with 21 points in a victory over the host school, Hawaii-Hilo. Tomsick then poured in a career-high 37 points in an overtime loss to Northern New Mexico thanks to the help of six 3-pointers. The senior from Broomfield wasn’t done, adding 22 points in a double-overtime loss to Tiffin on Wednesday.

In three games, Tomsick hit 47.5 percent (29-of-61) from the field, including 41.9 percent (13-of-31) from beyond the arc.

Nicholas Kay of Metro State earned the league’s top defensive honor for the week. The Australian big man averaged 15.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.0 blocked shots in two games last week for the Roadrunners).

The Skyhawks will open conference play this weekend. FLC will host UC-Colorado Springs at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Whalen Gymnasium before a 7:30 p.m. Saturday matchup with CSU-Pueblo.
