Tough day at Top of the Rockies

Only three Demons still wrestling after opening round

The Demons didn’t wrestle like they expected Friday at the Top of the Rockies tournament in La Jara.

Patrick Cunnion, Devin Pound and Mark Anthony Trujillo will wrestle Saturday for a chance at third place.

Matthew Lavengood wrestled one match before he was pulled because of a shoulder injury.

“We’d rather have him heal up before regionals,” DHS head coach John Gurule said.

Dillon Anthony, Henry Dorr, Kyle Duran, Cole Gustavson, Daniel Gustavson, Hunter Hall, Diego Martinez and Tristan Martinez all lost both of the matches they wrestled and were eliminated.

“We just didn’t come out and wrestle. I’m going to take the blame for that because it’s my job to have these guys prepared,” Gurule said. “We’re going to continue with the guys we have and get into the room with these guys next week and fix the problems.”
