The seventh annual Tour de Farms is scheduled Saturday. Two bicycle tours, a long ride and a short ride, will feature agriculture in the Animas Valley and around Durango.
A 30-mile ride through the north Animas Valley is sold out. A few slots remain for the short tour of about 7 miles to see backyard gardens, a community garden and a church garden.
Participants in the short tour should meet at 8 a.m. at the La Plata County Fairgrounds. All riders must wear a helmet.
Growing Partners of Southwest Colorado and the Colorado State University Extension organized the outings.
The cost is $20 per person or a family price of $50 for two adults and two children. Children in a bike seat are free. Registration can be done at www.growingpartners.org.
Both rides are scheduled to end at the fairgrounds at noon. Participants then will travel by car or bike to Ska Brewery, 225 Girard St. in Bodo Industrial Park, for a free beverage and lunch hosted by Zia Taqueria.
The sponsors of this year’s tours are Zia Taqueria, Mercy Regional Medical Center, Edible San Juan Mountain Magazine, Ska Brewing Co., Cyprus Café, Namaste Health Center, Healthy Lifestyle La Plata, Durango Natural Foods and Hassle Free Sports.
