The teacher shortage crisis in Colorado will be addressed after a new law sponsored by state Rep. Barbara McLachlan, D-Durango, went into effect Wednesday.
House Bill 1003 requires the state’s Department of Higher Education to conduct a study on teacher shortages. The study must be completed by Dec. 1.
The Department of Higher Education, in partnership with the Colorado Department of Education and Colorado school districts, will work to improve the recruitment and retention of teachers in the state.
To address the current educator shortage across Colorado, the Colorado Department of Higher Education, the Colorado Department of Education and the Ignacio School District will host a town hall meeting from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Monday at Ignacio High School.
Educators, students, parents, community members and community members are encouraged to share their experiences and ideas for recruiting and retaining educators.
The town hall meetings are part of the extended outreach effort that will meet with groups throughout the state. This meeting is one of 12 town hall meetings that have been scheduled around the state for the summer.
