Town of Bayfield buying new holiday decorations

It might seem a long time away, but Bayfield will have new Christmas decorations for downtown light poles next winter.

Tuesday night, town trustees approved spending $3,066 for the new decorations. There were complaints this past holiday season about the lack of decorations.

The item isn't in the 2017 budget, so it will come out of fund balance, Town Manager Chris La May said. It's complicated by issues with the light poles. Some have electric outlets, but the outlets no longer work. La May advised there's some uncertainty which ones belong to LPEA and which are owned by the town. LPEA will have to upgrade the poles, and A-Z Electric will provide outlets to light the decorations, he said.

Trustee Michelle Nelson Yost commented, "There was a post on Facebook today that we still have Christmas decorations up. It looks like we don't care. If we're going to invest the money (in new decorations), I'd like to see them come down by Valentines Day."

La May said he'll have the laggard decorations taken down.

Trustees also approved a contract for up to $11,200 with SME Engineering to do construction monitoring when replacement wetland is created in Little Pine Park as part of replacing the two old green bridges on Bayfield Parkway.
