Durango High School hosted its annual Ron Keller Invitational track and field meet on Saturday, welcoming most of the teams from Southwest Colorado to town.

The Demons picked up some wins early in the meet. With 11 heats in the boys 100-meter dash and eight in the girls 100, however, the athletes had to beat out a lot of competitors in most of the events to make the podium.

Durango grabbed the top spots in both 3,200 meter races. Luke Swenk won the boys 3,200 in 10 minutes, 8.73 seconds while teammate AJ Bonanno crossed second in 10:54.17.

In the girls 3,200, Sofia Voss won in 12:00.00 and Ayumi Lambert took second in 12:29.00 for the Demons.

Durango had several other athletes finish near the top in the invite’s early races.

Jaxon Fancher of DHS finished second in 11.36, followed by teammates Seb Tripp (11.42) and Branden Marquez (11:48). Ayden Casillas of Bayfield finished fifth (11.50) and teammate Jonathan Chapman crossed seventh in 11.55, .03 after Colton Lucero of Pagosa Springs.

In the girls’ 100, Brooke Jabour of Mancos took the win in 13.71. Reece Peterson of Pagosa Springs took second in 13.91 followed by Durango’s Leni Rapp (third, 13.99) and Jessica McVaugh (fourth, 14.09).
