The Colorado Department of Transportation anticipates traffic delays west of Bayfield on Thursday and Friday.
CDOT is installing a large mammal wildlife underpass under U.S. Highway 160, and in the process created a two-lane detour for the yearlong project between mile markers 96.9 and 97.4.
“Currently, the detour is in need of repairs to accommodate the amount of traffic it has been experiencing,” said Nancy Shanks, CDOT’s communications manager for Region 5.
Traffic through the detour will go to one-lane alternating beginning at 9 a.m. each day and possibly continuing until the early evening commute both days, she said.
“All efforts are being done to open the road back to two-lane operations by 5 p.m.,” Shanks said.
