When visiting Durango, my friend who drove got a ticket on East Third Avenue for not coming to a full stop at a stop sign. I understand from our local host that this particular corner is notorious for police surveillance, and just about everyone she knows has gotten a ticket there. If it is such a “dangerous” corner, why not just install a traffic light at the intersection. Oh, but that means less revenue for the city. Then what’s the object of stop signs – revenue or public safety? If public safety is truly foremost, if a traffic light were installed, the police stationed there could be freed up to look for real criminals.
