A Colorado Department of Transportation crew repaired a traffic signal control cabinet at Main Avenue and 25th Street on Monday after it was hit by a vehicle a day earlier.
The cabinet – a structure that houses the traffic signal light’s control systems – was damaged when a vehicle hit it at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The traffic signal light continued to operate until the cabinet was repaired.
The work began about 8:30 a.m. and was completed by 1:15 p.m., CDOT spokeswoman Nancy Shanks said.
Replacing the signal cabinet cost $50,000.
“Like any other property owner, we will be submitting a claim,” Shanks said.
The driver was cited for reckless driving, said Durango police Sgt. Rita Warfield; she also admitted to falling asleep. The driver struck a U-Haul before hitting the utility box. The intersection is just north of Durango High School.
