Trails 2000, in partnership with City of Durango, Fort Lewis College, Russell Planning and Engineering, CrossFit Durango and CrossFit Catacombs, recently announced plans for “Project Sky Steps” to create a “town-to-sky connect” from the nature trail steps to the Fort Lewis College campus.
The project will create a walking route to the college and training stairway, to include more than 500 steps and an elevation gain of 250 feet.
The project kickoff will be held 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at the nature trail switchback on East Eighth Avenue; participants should use street parking in the neighborhoods at the bottom of the hill and bring closed-toe footwear, a raincoat, pants, a hat, sunscreen and a water bottle. Trails 2000 will provide tools, water and snacks.
Various trail-work days will be held through April and May until the project is completed.
