I feel lucky to call Durango home.
Our vibrant and diverse community gives us much in which to take pride, and this is always reinforced when I travel outside of town.
While there are a lot of nice places out in the world, I have yet to find one as great as our little corner. When folks ask where I’m from, I often feel like a chamber spokesperson, going on and on about the wonderful community of Durango.
Yes, I’m proud of our town! I take pride in the resiliency of our economy, the Animas River Trail, our cowboy heritage and the gazillion recreational opportunities outside our front doors.
It is impressive that many of our most popular, and most used, places (Animas River, Whitewater Park, Rec Center and others) remain litter free. It is a small thing, but one that shows pride of place. You don’t often see this in other cities and towns.
Which brings me to the point of this letter: I’m disappointed with the trash I’m seeing in the Durango High School parking lot. Come on students, faculty and staff – show some respect and clean it up.
I know the Skyhawks, Eagles, Mustangs, Huskies, Angels, Wildcats, Badgers, Roadrunners, Panthers, Eagles and Bulldogs are all feeling it.
Time for some Demon Pride!
