The election of Britt Bassett and Tim Wheeler to the LPEA board is vital to the health and financial future of our region. They recognize that not only does renewable energy help to clean up our air and combat climate change, it is now much cheaper than coal-generated electricity. And, no minor benefit, it creates local jobs and supports our local economy.
Tri-State pushed all co-ops into signing a contract to pay for a coal mine and a costly attempt at building the last new coal-fired power plant. This election will not allow us to leave Tri-State, our energy provider, immediately, but will give us options to Tri-State’s 32 additional years on their contract with LPEA. Tri-State is a significant polluting utility when compared to other utilities by unit of energy used. For the health and financial future of our region, we must divest ourselves of future dependency on this utility.
Ballots will arrive in the mail after April 17. Britt Bassett and Tim Wheeler are actively committed to a renewable energy future for our region. Vote for Bassett and Wheeler for the LPEA Board of Directors.
