The 97th annual Southern Ute Fair and Powwow starts today and runs through Sunday at various locations in Ignacio.
Baked goods, crafts, clothing and other exhibits are on display throughout the weekend at the Southern Ute Cultural Center and Museum, while the livestock is at the Sky Ute Events Center.
Youth games are at 4 p.m. today, followed by the Gourd Dance at 5 p.m. and the Powwow Grand Entry at 7 p.m. at the events center.
Saturday's highlights include the Vigil Family memorial walk and run at 7:30 a.m. at SunUte Community Center.
The parade is at 10 a.m. on Goddard Avenue, followed by powwow events, horseshoe tournament, jalapeño eating contest, stickgame tournament, youth concert, dinner and a continuation of the Gourd Dance and Powwow. The fireworks display is set for 8:30 p.m.
Sky Ute Casino also will host its ninth annual classic car show on Saturday. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m., and there is no entry fee. The first 150 entries receive a gift bag. There are more than 20 categories of competition in passenger cars, street rods, trucks and specialized categories.
Sunday events at the tribal fair include an archery shoot, chili, salsa and frybread contest, a greased pole climb, chicken pull and other activities.
