Truck rolls over near Santa Rita Drive

A Ford F-150 rolled off the side of a steep embankment and landed on its top Tuesday off Colorado Highway 3 in Durango.

The driver of a Ford F-150 apparently suffered a medical emergency Tuesday and drove off the side of Colorado Highway 3, rolling down an embankment and landing upside down.

The driver was identified as Jason English of Durango.

English was up and walking after the crash, but his wife, Deaven Sue English, who was in the passenger seat, was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center, said Ron Wysocki, with the Durango Police Department.

She was listed in good condition Tuesday night, said hospital spokesman David Bruzzese.

The crash was reported at 4:03 p.m. just south of the intersection at Santa Rita Drive and Colorado Highway 3.

According to a witness, the truck accelerated from the traffic signal at Santa Rita Drive heading south on Highway 3 and drifted off the right side of the road and down the embankment, Wysocki said. The witness said no brake lights came on.

Deaven English told police her husband passed out at the wheel, and she tried to wake him.

Jason English told police the last thing he remembered was going through the traffic signal.

Police didn’t plan to issue any citations considering it was a medical emergency, Wysocki said.

The truck had temporary license plate tags, indicated it had been recently purchased, he said.
