The Herald’s editorial endorsing Kamala Harris for president was a treasure. Giving a factual context about Trump’s record is exactly why local news by local people is necessary for a functioning democracy. How such a vulgar, hypocritical man could be a serious candidate to lead our country shocks some but is weirdly appealing to others. As condemning as the editorial was about such an unserious Republican candidate, does it matter? There is a reason so much money is behind Trump’s candidacy. When the far-right express their desire to “taking back our country,” it necessitates a candidate who is not afraid to express far right values and ethics. More importantly, they need a candidate who is willing to do whatever is necessary, including political violence, to implement their project 2025 agenda. Trump is their “imperfect” vessel.
