It would be so sad to let this day go by without calling out Trump for invoking Pocahontas yet again. This happened in front of a painting of Andrew Jackson, the Trail of Tears president.
The White House gathering was to honor the Navajo Code Talkers who helped this country win World War II, in spite of the fact that their country was stolen.
He, Trump, could have used that moment to tell us more about how the Navajo language was shared with the Navy, in spite of the fact that their language was forbidden. Instead Trump, totally out of control of himself, embarrassed all of us and lost another opportunity to be a true leader.
He could have shared with the American people what and who a true hero is. He could have emphasized that the Navajo people helped the United States win World War II. He could have conducted an honoring ceremony, instead of focusing on himself.
