In response to Janet Enge’s letter (Herald, Dec. 1):
In her letter, Enge complains that The Durango Herald failed to give the presidential election results proper coverage on the morning after Nov. 8. She accused Herald journalists of “Bad form. Very bad form.” My guess is that these journalists were in such a catatonic state of horror and shock because America had just elected a completely unqualified, sociopathic demagogue, that they needed a bit more time to recover some semblance of objectivity and dignity. Herald journalists are human; I forgive them.
Donald Trump is also human, but I will never, ever forgive him for allowing his ego, and infantile, pathological need for attention to drive his campaign with lies, bigotry and hate in order to con millions of people into voting for him and thus presenting the people of our country and the rest of the world with a clear and present danger.
Enge further states that the Herald journalists, those blackguards guilty of dereliction of duty, could not “admit the honest election results.” Given that Hillary Clinton received 2.5 million more votes than Trump in the popular vote, Enge’s reference to this as an “honest” result plays like a very bad joke. She doesn’t give deserved credit to those hardworking, hacking Russian agents, and FBI Director Comey, whose illegally interfering, bogus, but fatal “announcement” two weeks before the election pretty much guaranteed that fairness and “honesty” took a flying leap out the window.
Enge then states that by dint of their insufficiently celebratory coverage, these same stunned Herald journalists “disrespected my vote” (presumably for Trump.)
No. The disrespectful one is Donald Trump. He disrespected our Constitution, our democratic institutions and the American people by campaigning for and winning the office of American president, knowing full well that he was incompetent, amoral and, worst of all, a scam artist not really interested in working hard as the office requires and the American people deserve.
Bad form. Very bad form.
