Trump recognizes no bounds

I am terrified at what is happening in our country. President Donald Trump recognizes no bounds to his power, and he said in a recent New York Times interview that the only limit is his “sense of morality.” However, his behavior demonstrates that he has no such moral sense. His only guide is a quest for power and wealth.

At age 82, I have clear memories of every president since Eisenhower and even vague recollections of Truman. All of them, from either party – even Richard Nixon – understood the constitutional framework in which they led the country, including our checks and balances. I don’t believe that Trump accepts any such limits. Instead, his actions of the last year say loudly, “Stop me if you can.”

Even if Jeff Hurd and a few Republican colleagues voted to impeach the president, what chance is there that two-thirds of the senators would vote to convict him? Would it take a coup to stop him? Would the military leadership remaining after his purge have the courage to do so?

Only once before in my life has the horror of a Civil War seemed even remotely possible, during the weeks before the Supreme Court decided the 2000 election and Al Gore patriotically accepted the decision. Does anyone believe that Donald Trump has that kind of integrity?

I do not.
