I am deeply offended by Donald Trump’s co-opting of the Fourth of July for his own personal celebrations, renaming it Freedom 250. I am related to individuals who were involved in the Revolution against the autocratic actions of the British king and Parliament. The Declaration of Independence stands for the right of all American citizens to create a democratic government by and for the people. The autocrat Trump is trampling the words and spirit of the Declaration of Independence. This should be condemned by all Americans, regardless of their origins, on this July 4th.
