Tuesday hours start back up for Bayfield vehicle registrations

Residents wait in line Tuesday to register vehicles at the La Plata County Clerk's office at Bayfield Town Hall. It was the first day that another day of service was offered for motor vehicle registrations in Bayfield.

After a year of being able to register vehicles in Bayfield only on Thursdays, the La Plata County Clerk's office is adding Tuesday hours at Bayfield Town Hall.

At least for now.

County Clerk Tiffany Parker said her office is trying to add another day to help shorten the lines that sometimes build up in Bayfield Town Hall on Thursdays.

"It's really challenging for us," she said. "We hope this can somewhat offset the Thursday lines." She said she can't guarantee if the Tuesday hours will remain in place because staffing levels at the clerk's office haven't changed.

The clerk's office does have services available online, as well as kiosks at the Pine River Library and the clerk's office in Bodo Park in Durango. In 2018, the Bayfield office was slated to be closed entirely, but community protests and petitions to the La Plata County Commission kept it open on Thursday.
