Sheriff’s deputy conducting a preliminary investigation
Two Durango men who planned to climb northeast of Vallecito Reservoir did not arrive home by their expected time Monday night.
“They were climbing in the Upper Pine River Valley northeast of the lake, through the Pine River Trail System,” said Butch Knowlton, with La Plata County Search & Rescue at about 10:20 p.m. “They are overdue.”
At that time, a La Plata County Sheriff’s Office deputy was en route to the trailhead area to see if their vehicles were still parked there. Knowlton was waiting to hear what the deputy discovered before deciding what the next steps would be.
