Backcountry Experience and Gardenswartz Outdoors have both been listed on Outdoors USA Magazine’s inaugural list of top 100 outdoors specialty retailers in the country.
The trade magazine publicized the list Tuesday. The two Durango shops are among eight Colorado stores on the list, and are the only two in Southwest Colorado.
This year’s top 100 retailers were chosen from nominations provided by leading industry brands and distributors, according to a news release from Outdoors USA Magazine. Stores were also able to nominate themselves for consideration.
The magazine said it defines “independent outdoor specialty retailer” as a retail organization that primarily serves outdoor and active lifestyle enthusiasts and does not exceed 20 stores.
Outdoors USA Magazine is a trade publication that caters to outdoor and active-lifestyle businesses. It is also available online.
