A pair of Fort Lewis College athletes were commended for their work in the classroom recently, with senior football player Evan Wagstrom being named to the Academic All-District (Super Region 4) team and sophomore women’s soccer player Laura Tita being named the women’s soccer Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Summit Award recipient.
Wagstrom, a 6-4, 270-pound offensive lineman, is a European history major and carries a 3.88 grade-point average. The teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America to recognize excellence both on the field and in the classroom and are divided into eight geographic districts across the U.S. and Canada.
Wagstrom is a three-time RMAC All-Academic Team selection and has started all ten games for the Skyhawks (4-6, 3-5 RMAC) this season.
The RMAC Summit Award, meanwhile, goes to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA that participate at the finals sites for each of the conference’s championship events.
Tita carries a 3.95 cumulative GPA in biology and was a 2013 RMAC All-Academic honor roll selection. The sophomore defender has appeared in 20 games for the 24th-ranked Skyhawks in two seasons, scoring a goal and contributing an assist.
The FLC football team will host Black Hills State at noon Saturday, while the women’s soccer team will host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament this weekend.
