Two marijuana businesses will open in Durango after approval from the Local Licensing Authority board on Tuesday.

The board unanimously approved a change of location for the temporarily closed Animas Herbal Wellness Center, and the opening of a new business, The Delta 9 Depot.

The approval brings the total number of marijuana businesses in city limits to 11.

Animas Herbal Wellness Center, previously at 1111 Camino del Rio, will move to the vacant building at 1185 Camino del Rio.

“We will essentially be two doors down. ... I feel the city has done everything they can to help us along in this process. We want to continue to run a good business and we are excited to do so,” said General Manager Wes Drobney.

There is no opening date set for Animas Herbal Wellness Center because restoration work needs to be done on the building.

“It’s hard to know for sure when we will open, but the sooner the better. We retained a lot of employees who are excited to go back. We’d love to open in a month, but it is unlikely,” said Drobney. “Parking will be behind the store, but the lot needs repaved. We also have to do interior and exterior improvements on the building.”

The Delta 9 Depot, run by Ezra Enterprises Inc., will open at 927 Colorado Highway 3.

“I’ve been in this industry since 2009, and this will be my third dispensary,” said owner Tanya Garduno, who is also the president of the Southern Colorado Cannabis Council.

Garduno said she hopes to open her store within the next couple of weeks after adding finishing touches to the building, including an updated security system.
