President Obama will soon submit a budget to Congress, and it is my understanding that he will not recommend an increase to the gasoline, diesel tax.
I feel that a fuel-tax increase makes sense, and it is a tax that all Americans will have to pay. This tax increase should be part of an overall package of tax adjustments that will include the taxes on the wealthy that the Republican Party is so strongly opposed to. Saving the family farm is not the issue to hide behind when it comes to equitable taxes.
If we want a strong country with a trained work force, solid infrastructure, cutting edge industry we have to invest in our present and our future.
At the present time, the gap between the rich and the average working person has spread to the numbers that have not been seen since just before the Great Depression. There are plenty of ways to “redistribute wealth.” A more fair tax code would be a good step in the right direction. It is amazing how many ways there are for a wealthy person or corporation to avoid taxes on income, capital gains, inheritance, depletion allowances, investment credits, tax attorneys, which are not available to the average working person.
Let’s make America stronger, and bite the bullet on a more fair and progressive tax system.
