With the top-two seeded players playing in the U.S. Open semifinals Saturday in New York, the final looked like a lock between No. 1 Novak Djokovic and No. 2 Roger Federer (pictured.) It wasn’t to be. No. 10 Kei Nishikori upset Djokovic, then No. 14 Marin Cilic upset Federer.

Results: Men’s Singles Semifinals – No. 10 Kei Nishikori upset No. 1 Novak Djokovic 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3 to advance to his first Grand Slam final, where he will face another first-time finalist, No. 14 Marin Cilic. Cilic stunned five-time champion Roger Federer 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.

On Court on Sunday: Women’s Semifinals – No. 1 Serena Williams vs. No. 10 Caroline Wozniacki. Men’s Doubles Final – No. 1 Bob and Mike Bryan vs. No. 11 Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez.

Stat of the Day: 0 – The number of Grand Slam titles won by the men’s finalists, Marin Cilic and Kei Nishikori. The last Grand Slam final without a former champion was the 2008 Australian Open between Novak Djokovic and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Quote of the Day: “It was one of those matches like old-school tennis. It was just like full swing from all sides: forehand, backhand, serve, return,” Federer said of his match against Cilic.
