Marin Cilic of Croatia beat Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic in straight sets in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open on Thursday in New York to reach his first U.S. Open semifinals. “At least the third set was close,” said Berdych, who lost 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 (4).

Men’s Doubles Results (Semifinals): Men – the top-seeded team of Bob and Mike Bryan advanced to their 27th Grand Slam final, beating Americans Scott Lipsky and Rajeev Ram. They’ll face No. 11-seeded Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez of Spain, who beat Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo.

Women’s Doubles Results (Semifinals): Singles semifinalist Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina beat 43-year-old Kimiko Date-Krumm and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova in straight sets to set up a final matchup with Martina Hingis and Flavia Pennetta. Hingis’ last Grand Slam title was the Australian Open mixed doubles in 2006.
