U.S. parks offer free admission

Park Point is visible from a window in the rotunda of the Mesa Verde Visitor and Research Center. The national park, among others in the area, will offer free admission for Presidents Day, which includes Saturday through Monday.

All of the country’s national parks, monuments and seashores will offer free admission for Presidents Day, which covers Saturday through Monday.

A number of the venues are within striking distance of Southwest Colorado.

Among them: Mesa Verde near Mancos; Chaco Culture National Historical Park in the northwest corner of New Mexico; Canyon de Chelly National Monument in northeast Arizona; and Canyons of the Ancients National Monument near Cortez.

Chimney Rock National Monument between Bayfield and Pagosa Springs doesn’t open until May 15.

The National Park Service will waive admission on five more holidays this year – April 18-19, the first weekend of National Park Week; Aug. 25, the National Park Service’s 99th birthday; National Public Lands Day on Sept. 26; and Nov. 11, Veterans Day.
