Dick White states that “(u)nity is crucial in fight against deadly threats of extreme heat, cold, storms” (Herald, Oct. 29). I wholeheartedly agree.
We must unite in taking the necessary action to fight climate change. We are fighting a war, which, as outlined by Mr. White, has already caused millions of unnecessary deaths, and we need everyone to join together to ensure we have a livable world for future generations. Extreme weather events, drought and wildfires impact all of us, whether we are conservative or progressive, Democrat or Republican.
President Joe Biden and Democrats have promised to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030. Let’s hold them to their promise. By putting a price on pollution, we can achieve that goal. We have allowed companies to pollute our air and water without charging any fees for this pollution.
By passing legislation to put a price on carbon, with a dividend returned to U.S. households from the money collected, we can hold corporations accountable for their carbon emissions. The dividends will make sure that people have the money to pay increased prices for fuel. By putting a price on carbon, we allow the market to determine the best and cheapest forms of energy to use.
Please call Sens. Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper and Rep. Lauren Boebert and tell them you support a fee on carbon and a dividend. Together, we can pass some meaningful legislation on climate.
