University Women to hold fall luncheon Sept. 29

Event will feature presentations from local women leaders
Hayley Kirkman, lead artist of the “Local is the Way” mural, stands in front of the mural after unveiling it earlier this year at Durango Joe’s on College Drive. Kirkman will give a presentation at the American Association of University Women fall luncheon Sept. 29.

The Durango branch of the American Association of University Women will hold its annual fall luncheon Sept. 29 at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.

The event will feature guest speakers Allie Wolfe and Chynna Levaldo, who were 2018 National Conference for College Women Student Leaders recipients. Hayley Kirkman, 2016 NCCWSL award recipient, will also give a presentation at the luncheon. Kirkman earned a graphic design degree from Fort Lewis College, where she was a designer for its Village Aid Project and Environmental Center.

She was approached by Local First in June 2017 with a request to perform contracted mural work and was hired to its team as the creative arts and special projects coordinator soon after. Kirkman is now leading a community mural project on Narrow Gauge Avenue and is in the process of establishing Durango as a certified creative district.

A social time will start at 11 a.m., with lunch at 11:30 a.m. and presentations at 12:10 p.m.

Cost is $20 to attend the event without lunch and $45 to have lunch included. To attend, mail a check, payable to AAUW Durango, to: Grace Deltscheff, 56 Red Cliffs Road, Durango, CO 81301. The association asks that payment be mailed by Sept. 20.
