UPDATE: 7:16 p.m.

Power to the Durango-La Plata County Airport has been restored.

As of 7:03 p.m., the airport’s power was back-fed through a separate substation. Tony Vicari, director of aviation for the airport, said he expects all operations to be back online by 7:30 p.m.

One flight, American Airlines Flight 3069, was the only flight affected. That delay was expected to last only one hour.

“The LPEA is a tremendous partner to the airport,” Vicari said.

Lightning was the confirmed cause for the power outage. The LPEA is working quickly to restore power with hopes of all customers being restored by 8 p.m.

“Power to Downtown Durango is expected to be restored within the hour, pending discovery of any additional lightning damage,” the LPEA said in a news release.

A power outage across the Durango area affected an estimated 18,000 customers, including the Durango-La Plata County Airport on Saturday, according to the La Plata Electric Association.

Lightning affected Tri-State’s Bodo Industrial Park substation, and LPEA and Tri-State crews are assembling to restore power.

People reported the outage spanning from Lightner Creek, Florida Mesa, Fort Lewis College and past Elmore’s Corner. Most of downtown Durango is without power.

LPEA has not reported a timetable for power restoration.
