The Upper Pine River Fire Protection District has received a certificate of achievement for excellence in financial reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report.

The annual report was judged by an impartial panel. It was found to demonstrate a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read it.

"Much of the credit for this award goes to Mickey Ramsey, our contract accountant and the district's business manager, Lisa Eckert," said Fire Chief Bruce Evans. "The request for the mill levy increase raised a lot of questions about the district's stewardship over our finances, and this third party validation confirms we are managing our finances to the highest level of accounting standards."

The certification of achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management, according to the GFOA.

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, IL, and Washington, D.C.
