One ambulance and two crew members from the Upper Pine River Fire Protection District have been deployed to Georgia to help with Hurricane Michael relief.
The ambulance crew left Colorado on Thursday morning in anticipation of receiving a call from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which came around 10:30 p.m., according to a news release from the fire protection district.
Crews will assist with patient triage, treatment, transportation and redistribution of patients to free up bed space. Sending a crew to assist with hurricane relief “in no way will affect our ability to provide coverage for our community or the fire district as part-time staff are filling in,” according to the release.
Hurricane Michael slammed into Florida’s panhandle as one of the strongest storms to reach the continental United States. With sustained winds of 145 mph near the storm wall, Michael made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane and hit the state of Georgia as a Category 3 storm. At least 13 deaths have been reported, according to The New York Times.
