Vaccines prevent the suffering I experienced as a child

I have practiced medicine including immunology for 40 years. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. admits to having no medical or scientific education or experience. Despite this, he has used his position of power to spread an anti-vaccine agenda.

Immunization of our children to measles, mumps and rubella before school entrance is imperative if we wish them to remain healthy.

I suffered from measles, mumps and rubella as a child, a time when vaccines had not yet been invented. My mother kept the shades down for fear of my developing hearing loss or brain infection. She worried about meningitis and testicular inflammation in my brother when he had mumps. She was afraid one of us would develop pneumonia or brain involvement during measles. Fortunately, with her good care, we survived.

There is extreme concern about pregnant women who develop rubella infection. This can cause multiple deformities in the child if it survives.

The MMR vaccine can be obtained at the La Plata County Health Department at no cost. We have an obligation to the health of our children and of our community.
