Vallecito photographer showing at Open Shutter

Shockley's images among last being displayed in Durango gallery

Vallecito documentary photographer Jeremy Wade Shockley is opening a show today at Open Shutter Gallery in Durango.

"The American West" features images selected by Shockley which he made throughout Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming and Utah of the people, small communities and open landscapes he has documented throughout his career. The nostalgia-tinged images depicting rural life, cowboys and rugged Western landscapes span more than a decade.

"It's a special opportunity to show these images at the Open Shutter Gallery, in and near the communities where they were created, and where I live," Shockley said.

"And it's an honor to be part of the final chapter of the Open Shutter's time on Main Avenue in Durango, before the gallery changes direction and closes its retail space." The exhibition features a selection of photographs created while on assignment, along with more personal vignettes of the American West.

Shockley's current projects include documentary work in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and the cultures of Northern New Mexico.

The American West opens in conjunction with an exhibit by photographer Beth Moon, with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the gallery.

Shockley will be available at the opening to discuss his work. The show runs until Aug. 17.
