Vallecito Service League appreciates supper supporters

The Vallecito Service League sincerely thanks everyone who cooked and attended our annual chili cookoff on June 11.

Mike Dwinnell's "Anti-Gringo Chili" won first place. Prizes included a painted leather plaque by artist Sandi Rusinko, plus an evening of dining, theater and lodging in Durango.

His elk dish produced heat on the tongue that "evaporated," leaving light savory flavors.

Second place was the spicy cream-based red and green chili combo by Chef Jamie of the Lake House Restaurant.

Third place went to Manette Swan Furman's mild, tasty white bean turkey green chili. Each chef's space was decorated according to the theme of their chili and each of the nine entries was a fine, unique treat, from tasty-mild or sweet to robust and spicy!

We thank chefs and diners for helping to make our chili supper a fun and successful event. Proceeds benefit the July 1 Vallecito fireworks.
